Rainbow House Adventures
Stories of friendship, family, and growing up in Meadowbrook, Nebraska.

The Rainbow House Adventures: The Ties That Bind is the first book in a middle-grade series about friendship, family, community, and the stories that connect us across generations.
In the rural town of Meadowbrook, Nebraska, fifth-grader Ella Parker is carrying a worry she doesn't know how to share. Her family's farm has been struggling, and although her parents try to protect her from their financial troubles, Ella knows something is wrong. Then a school history project brings Ella together with five classmates she barely knows and leads them to the long-abandoned Lancaster Mansion. Inside, the girls discover a hidden stained-glass window, a forgotten room, and journals Margaret Lancaster wrote more than a century ago.
About
Colleen M. Nelson
For Colleen M. Nelson, every place begins with a question: Who lives here? What do they love? What stories are waiting to be discovered?
As a child, her family took many road trips, and each town they passed through sparked her imagination. She wondered about the people who lived there, the friendships they shared, the traditions they cherished, and what an ordinary day in their lives might be like.
That childhood curiosity became the foundation for the stories she writes today. Growing up in a community shaped by tradition, service, and belonging taught her how much the people around us can shape our lives. Her stories are rooted in the idea that some of our greatest adventures can be found among the people and places already around us.
Through The Rainbow House Adventures, Colleen invites young readers into communities filled with memorable characters, meaningful friendships, and adventures that remind us there is always more to discover when we take the time to look.
Colleen lives in Nebraska with her family, where she continues to find inspiration in small towns, everyday conversations, and the people who make each community its own. She hopes her stories encourage young readers to look at the world around them with fresh curiosity and discover the adventures waiting close to home.
